Very happy right now...my BLURB book came today! They are a company that lets you create really cool photo books. They even have an "instagram book" where they will upload all your instagram pics and you can pick and choose your pictures very easily. I love it soo much! I plan on making more instagram books...since so many of the pictures I take of Hunter are through instagram. Next year I want to organize the pictures a little better in the book by month etc. I found a great app on my phone called aCal lite (iphones), it's free and it records each picture on a calendar so you know what pics you on each day of the year! Very cool app. I also like the feature where you can record a little message on the a particular picture about that special day. Here's the book I made, I choose paperback this time since I have a few hardbacks I wanted to see the difference, I absolutely love the paperback but hardback may be a better choice to keep from getting bent.

I could take pictures all day of this kid...my little model ; )

Oh and one more thing...I am suuuper excited for this weekend, we are staying at a local hotel here in town that has in indoor water park! Hunter is going to flip out! He loves the water but with the trach he wasn't able to fully enjoy the pool. Now with no more trach, we can have some pool fun! (yes even in the winter...thank goodness it's indoors).  I will post pics later of course...Thanks, Mom for treating us to a super fun weekend....I just know it!

2 years ago today...

Today marks two whole years since Hunter got his trach. Taking myself back to that day is sometime I don't like to do. I did however, want to remember it today because I am so grateful for my sweet Hunter and proud of him for being to brave and such a good little boy.

I remember going to the hospital for Hunter's "procedure" just to "look" and see what was going on in his little airway...little is the key word. Poor guy was breathing through a little airway the size of a coffee stir straw. I remember after they took him back the nurse said the doctor will come back out to the waiting room to get us and talk about what she found. She also said sometimes they bring you into a room to discuss things but it doesn't mean anything bad has happened.......

After about double the time they said it would take, the nurse then said the doctor would see us in that little room....I was terrified to say the least...but at the same time I told myself, it's okay, the nurse said it doesn't mean anything bad happened. So while waiting for the doctor in their...Jeremy and I were upbeat, anxious to hear it was nothing severe. Once the doctor arrived and explained to us that Hunter's airway is dangerously small, I began to tear up immediately. Was I hearing this right? The only option was a tracheostomy??? What the heck is that??? She said we needed to make our decision right away, she left the room and gave us about 5 mins. We had no other choice, we told her to go ahead with it. I felt so awful at that moment..my sweet boy came into the hospital just fine and now he's having major surgery!

We were a mess....beside ourselves. I only wish we had a clue that day, of what our future would become...that everything was going to be okay. It sure would have helped that frightening day we had.

After a few more scares ( not being able to get Hunter stable after surgery, air in his lungs etc ), we finally got to see our sweet boy. I remember being scared yet beyond happy to finally see him. I will never locking eyes with him and watching a small tear roll down his cheek....I wanted so badly to swap places with him.

Fast forward, several more doctors appointments, procedures, surgery, traveling several times to Cincinnati to see Dr. Rutter, Hunter is doing amazing....He's left with the hole from where the trach was, but other than that you'd never know what this boy went through. I love him beyond words...

(me, trying to look happy for hunter)

I had a very proud mama moment today....We were at horse therapy when Hunter's therapist brought Hunter(while on the horse) over to me and asked if Hunter was potty training. I said no, why? She said he told her he needed to go potty. I was very surprised and almost didn't know what to do! We've only practiced a very small amount at home on his tiny potty chair and lately haven't even bothered with it since I don't want to push him... So off we went to the potty where he went in the big toilet! For mom's out there who know...this is big news!  I was very happy and surprised...I even took pictures....but I will spare you of those....Yes, I am THAT mom.....

Of course, we'll take one day at a time and see how it goes hey maybe this is a start??? Good job Hunter, you did great today! So we had a mini celebration lunch at a yummy restaurant with Glamma..

But just in case...I think I better stock up on some m&m's.....

writing on the chalk before therapy starts

all done and now he get s his sucker for doing great!

celebration pancake!
watching some cartoons while mom shops

went into LUSH and the nice girl showed him the bubbles and how the fizzz

update

This update is long overdue. Hunter has been making huge progress in his speech. He says new words nearly everyday! It's very exciting to wonder what's going to come out of his mouth each day. Many of his words are still missing either the first or last letter but we've been told that is okay and normal. We are supposed to keep practicing his "oral awareness" skills. Making sure he knows he can use his tongue to help make the sounds of the words. When most babies are babbling away and figuring out what they mouths and tongues can do etc, he had his trach put in so he really never got the same "practice" as most babies. Having a trach really affected his vocal ability. He could still make sounds but they weren't exactly the same had he not had a trach. So now we have to work on that to continue his improvement with his speech. I couldn't be more proud of him though. He's come a long way..

He's still doing his in home therapy with Emilie, she is the best, so good with Hunter. She comes every other week and works on speech and oral awareness. Once a week we go for hippotherapy, which is still so fun to watch. He was even trotting a little with the horse last time! Can't wait for the weather to get nicer so he can ride outside and check out the farm more. Right now they stay in the barn while it's cold outside.

Time is flying by, I can't believe he's going to be THREE years old this year. Nuts!!!!!! Time to start looking into preschools...I've been hearing good things about one in particular and I love that it's super to close home. I plan on making a visit very soon. It makes me emotional thinking of my little baby going to school. I know they have two or three day options, I think at this age 2 days is plenty for toddlers this young.

He's still loves is obsessed with trucks, cars, airplanes, anything that goes really. He gets super excited when he sees one. He even was saying "trucks" in his sleep yesterday, it was the funniest thing. He loves "Mighty Machines" on netflix...they talk about how trucks work, how planes fly etc. It's his favorite show right now. This kid is all boy, dirt, cars, trucks you name it. Love him!

We still have to plan a visit to Dr. Rutter in Cincinnati October/November time for his followup appointment. Even though it's a ways away still, I get a little anxious about it. I keep telling myself there is no reason to worry, Hunter's been doing great and it's just a followup. I can't thank that doctor enough for what he did. It boggles my mind how his work can be life changing for these kids. I am beyond thankful we were able to get him as our doctor for Hunter.

I am also excited to take Hunter back to Seattle. We haven't been since his first birthday--way too long! It was also be nice not to have to travel with a ton of medical supplies! Now that is is a little older he will love going to the beach and walking in the sand, seeing the big buildings downtown, family, friends etc. Uncle Kyle told me about a cool kids place that just opened by my dads house, it's one of those trampoline places but has tons more stuff even. So I think we'll definitely go there = )  I have been checking out flights for a while, just waiting to find the best deals. Probably looking at March time to go.

saying "bye bye" to his therapy horse..
found this super cute play house at costco...nearly had a tantrum trying to get him out of it!
